If you are a business owner or manager, you don't always have the time, patience, or software to create the documents you need for your business.
A freelance technical writer can help!
If you need business documents, why should you hire a technical writing specialist? After all, you may be thinking, "I'm not a software company!"
There is more to technical writing than creating software manuals! You may not realize that tech writers also write business documents, web documents, and may even write and design marketing materials.
Hiring a freelance technical writer is an excellent idea when you need help with different types of documentation projects.
Technical writers are trained in writing, editing, layout, and communications, and they are usually proficient in several word processing, desktop publishing, and graphics programs. Many technical writers also know how to design websites and write web copy.
If you hire a freelance technical writer, you can work with the same person for many different projects instead of hiring a different designer for every document you need. The bonus is less stress for you, and it often costs less to retain a freelance writer than to hire a design firm.

I received my certification in Business and Technical Communications from Austin Community College (Austin, Texas), under the instruction of Dr. David McMurrey, the man who literally wrote the textbook. ["Power Tools for Technical Communication," by David A. McMurrey, Harcourt Inc., 2002.] My secondary area of study is website development, including website copywriting.
To accommodate single-sourcing and context-sensitive help projects, I recently added Madcap Flare to my writer's toolbox. I am a wiz with Microsoft Word 2007, and I am proficient using Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as many other software programs.
More information about my business and technical writing qualifications is available in my resume.
The best time for a writer to start on your project is at the beginning of the production cycle—a freelance technical writer should be considered part of the production team. This gives the writer an opportunity to interview subject matter experts, if needed.
Clients often contact me after they have started the project on their own and are completely out of time and patience!
Planning ahead for your documentation project not only reduces stress, but it reduces overall costs by eliminating "redos" and rush job charges. Last minute rush jobs often cause frustration, stress, and unfortunately, may result in the need to cut corners.
Let me create professional documents for you so you can concentrate on what you do best, running your business!
