Getting Technical Support

If you have ever tried to get Microsoft Word help directly from Microsoft, then you know how frustrating it can be. But there are other options for getting help that you can try first.

Your Company IT Department

Getting technical support from your IT department sometimes takes too long.If you are having problems with Word 2007 and it is installed on a company computer, submit a trouble ticket to your IT department. You may be able to get the answer in a few hours or less.

However, if your IT department is busy, you may get faster help by finding a knowledgeable coworker!

If you are a sole proprietor, you ARE your company's IT department...in that case, I suggest getting 3rd party support, or finding free information on the Microsoft support website.

3rd Party Support

There are thousands of companies that provide per-incident and subscription-based Microsoft Office technical support. You may have to hunt around to find one that provides the level of service you need for a price you can afford.

It is a good idea to set up an account with a 3rd party provider ahead of time. That way, you aren't trying to find a technician while you are under stress.

If the technical support company you are interested in offers subscriptions, ask if you can get a free 15-minute chat so you can try out their service before subscribing.

Your Computer Manufacturer

If you purchased a full version of Microsoft Word or Office 2007 and it came pre-installed on your computer, you may be eligible for software support from your computer manufacturer. See your warranty or call customer service for information.

"I Need Help from Microsoft"

If you want Microsoft technical support, you can visit the Microsoft online support center. Many of the options are free, so take a peek...you may find just what you need!

Be forewarned! It takes awhile to navigate the maze of options on the Microsoft website. For tips, read my comprehensive article, Microsoft Technical Support - Microsoft Word Support Options.

Microsoft offers paid support for business-critical problems. Advanced Support costs $259.00 during business hours, or $515.00 after-hours. After-hours support is only available under certain circumstances.
