Alternate Characters on Keyboard

December 23, 2013 by Sue Huckle

Every once in a while I accidentally hit the right key when using Word and it switches to the alternate characters. I don't know how it happens, so I just start hitting keys until it switches back. What key switches it and do I use the same key to switch back? -- Submitted by Lori from Alberta, Canada … [Read more...]

Spell Check Marking Capitalized Words as Misspelled

September 21, 2011 by Sue Huckle

I am writing because I have a very large word document at my office and when I see a word needing the first letter capitalized, I delete the letter and retype it capitalized. Spell check then recognizes the remainder of the word as misspelled. It does not red-underline the first letter though. If you try the correct option, it will place the correct word in after the letter you … [Read more...]

Removing Word Form Field Shading

July 25, 2011 by Sue Huckle

In my forms I created, the user (person filling it out) doesn't want to see the grey shaded areas to fill in. Can that be removed? -- Submitted by Marsha ANSWER: Yes, those gray shaded boxes can be removed. The gray shading does not print, but if you are creating an online form, all of those gray boxes can make your form look messy and confusing. Note: To create or … [Read more...]

Word Captions Formatting Goes Crazy!

February 11, 2011 by Sue Huckle

I am having problems with a document that uses Word captions and heading styles. I can make the file look perfect on screen. However, when I go to print the document (or even print preview), the formatting changes. Images that I have previously deleted from the document reappear, text that should be a normal style changes to captions (both of these styles are customised), … [Read more...]

How do I do a complete RECHECK of the spelling and grammar in a Word 07 document? -- Submitted by Anonymous (New Zealand) ANSWER: It is a good idea to do a complete spelling and grammar check on the last draft of a document, especially if more than one writer has worked on it. Insert an Object into a Protected Word Document

July 26, 2010 by Sue Huckle

I have a document that was created using tables and inserting legacy forms, specifically text form fields for the end user to fill out. I set specific requirements for each text form field to limit the length of each response. I then protected the document to make it more like a form for users to fill out without editing the overall appearance. The problem occurs when I get to … [Read more...]

June 1, 2010 by Sue Huckle

I cannot email a document, no matter what email client is my default email. I read you must have Outlook email installed on your computer in order to use this feature.
